From Recognition to Action: Make Your International Women’s Day Count – Celebrate & Drive Equality
Working moms, you’re incredible. Happy International Women’s Day (IWD)!
Today is a chance to celebrate your phenomenal achievements and I’m giving you a virtual high five for leading the charge at work, in life, and everything in between! More than celebrating all of your amazingness like running companies, shattering glass ceilings, and rocking motherhood, all at once, what is International Women’s Day about?
Marked annually on March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of women’s achievements across society. It’s a day to recognize women’s contributions in social, economic, cultural, and political spheres.
IWD also serves as a powerful call to action. It pushes us to accelerate progress towards achieving gender equality. Around the world, groups gather on IWD to celebrate women’s successes and advocate for a more equal future and world.
This year’s theme Inspiring Inclusion, is about continuing to drive progress.
But, let’s be honest, the world isn’t quite there yet in terms of equality. Even though we’ve made significant strides towards gender equality, there’s room to grow. The UN says it’ll take 286 years at our current pace! Crazy, right?
So, the question is what can we do to accelerate progress and move everyone in the right direction? Well, that’s the exciting part and our call to action! It will take all of us working together, women and men alike to accelerate change for a more equitable future. And a more equal world is not just good for us, it’s good for everyone.
Here are things that the IWD website says you can do in your workplaces, communities, and homes.
Ways to celebrate International Women’s Day:
– celebrating women’s achievements
– educating and raising awareness about women’s equality
– advocating for positive change advancing women
– lobbying for accelerated gender parity
– fundraising for women-focused charities
These activities can take on a variety of shapes, big or small, like events, rallies, performances, festivals, presentations, fun runs, and other athletic challenges, or if you’re like me and enjoy a good meal and conversation — perhaps a luncheon with mimosas? Let your imagination and heart lead you. Visit their website for more information. What’s also great about IWD’s 2024 theme: Inspiring Inclusion, is that any activity that helps promote gender equality goes! Now is the time to celebrate and educate.
So let’s keep rocking it, supporting each other, and reminding the world that women are a force to be reckoned with! Here’s to the strong, capable working moms who inspire us every single day!
